Karst Canyon Systems

Where thermal water crosses limestone it dissolves carbonate and lays it back down on the rock. The result is the turquoise of Tolantongo, Xajhá, Taxidhó, El Aguacate and Amajac: pools and caves on canyon floors, reached by dirt-road stretches. The same mechanism shows up at Carrizal, beside the Pescados river in Veracruz.
