South-Central Hydrothermal Trough

The fault ring around Popocatépetl lets sulfurous water out across Morelos, the State of Mexico and Puebla. The sulfur smell is the signature: the water touched volcanic rock before it reached the pool. This stretch holds Ixtapan, Chignahuapan, Atotonilco, Tecomatlán and Agua Hedionda.
